안녕하세요!

This week is a pretty special weekend, as we got to participate in the yearly POSTECH-KAIST War as supporters! POSTECH and KAIST are both renowned universities for science and technology in South Korea, and the POSTECH-KAIST(POKA) War was established in 2002 to promote closer ties among both schools.

Held over two days, the competition this year comprises of seven events, namely:

  1. Hacking
  2. Football
  3. Basketball
  4. Baseball
  5. Science Quiz
  6. AI
  7. ESports (League of Legends)

Upon arriving in KAIST, we were very eager to announce our arrival to our SUTD friends on exchange at KAIST.

Who said you don’t have to study while on exchange?!

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to catch up with our counterparts at the event 🙁

After the opening ceremony, which included performances by the cheer-leading groups of both schools (Korean cheer-leading is really unique!), we went about the campus, catching the competitions going on. The cheer-leading groups led the supporters in the cheers, and it was great fun cheering for the players!

rain or shine, still gotta cheer!

By the end of the two days, POSTECH claimed victory for this year’s POKA-War! After the last event, which was basketball, it was really crazy seeing everyone rushing down the court to celebrate the victory HAHA

Afterwards, they had a closing ceremony, where there were performances by dance groups and bands. They even invited Superbee, a famous Korean rapper!

We had to pay 10,000 won for the event, but I think it was worth it as it included transportation, accommodations, food, goody bag and a supporters t-shirt. It was a really fun event, being able to watch the competitions and cheering for POSTECH, and you could witness the immense amount of school pride the supporters have for their own schools!

That sums of this week in POSTECH, see yall in the next post!
