01 | HELLO HANGZHOU 你好杭州
We were told to report at 0620 at T1 but I only managed to finish packing at around 0320 which meant that I had less than an hour of sleep. Something that I am already well-adapted to HAHA.
A bus fetched us to Zhejiang University Zijingang Campus where the International Student Hostel, our home for the next 3 months, resides. Michelle, my roommate, and I were relieved when we saw our room. : ) We were brought to one of the many canteens to have our dinner. There are a few canteens in this “Canteen Building”. Fun fact of the day: I was told that Zijinggang has the largest university canteen in Asia. The food was oily and salty, as expected, but still much better than SUTD canteen food, in my opinion because it’s super valuable and there’ more variety to choose from. (Updated in July: My cheapest meal thus far only cost ¥4.6. Usual meal can range from around ¥6 to ¥11, depending on which canteen you go to and of course, how much you can eat :P)
After the dinner, Stella, our amazing student mentor brought us to Beijie (North Street), 北街 to do some grocery shopping and thereafter she excitedly brought us to Houjie (Back Street), 后街 (or the locals call it Duoluojie 堕落街) to let us have a taste of her favourite bubble tea, Heilong Zhennai, 黑龙珍奶 (A milk tea) from Heilongtang, 黑龙堂.
It was a tiring and an exciting day seeing so many new things and I am so looking forward to the amazing journey ahead! 杭州我来了! : D
