This week we had our first lesson on origami robots. During the lesson, we learnt some basic knowledge and applications of mechanical engineering. The professor showed us some prototypes of origami robots. We were impressed by the wide ranges of applications of those tiny robots in engineering, medical industry as well as architecture. The homework was to build a movable origami using cardboards or paper. We realised that it is not hard to make an origami, neither a robot, but when you combine the two together, we were completely lost.
21st May is the 120th anniversary of Zhejiang University. There were many interesting activities and performances around the school. I went for a concert by Wen Qin Philharmonic Orchestra on Friday. I really enjoyed the music they played! During the intermission, some of the graduating students shared their memories in the orchestra. One of the seniors has been stayed for 10 years.
There was a concert at Yu Quan campus on Saturday. It was very crowded and we came a bit late, so we could only find a place near the backstage.
Sunday was ZJU’s 120th birthday. The school was very crowded because many alumni went back to celebrate this special day. SUTD is a rather young school so that we don’t really have this kind of celebration. But I do believe that such cultures will slowly build up in SUTD. There was also a performance set up by the student union in ZJU in the evening.
It was such a fruitful week! I found myself a bit more ‘local’ after taking part in all those anniversary events. I am really excited for the next week to come:)
