This week, we started both the Design Fiction course and some work for our theme!
For my class, we had a pretty easy lesson, mostly spent on creating a story about robots. My group had a few wild ideas and the discussion was pretty fun. Some other groups also had a few mad robot stories – perhaps they might share them on their own blogs. But for ours, we came up with a domestic robot that later turned out to have some unexpected abilities at the end. Some other robot stories included robots that could cook, style someone’s appearances, and bionic body parts.
Apparently the other class had a lot of fun during lesson too! They got to do some acting and played games in class. I am only slightly jealous.
Moving on to our theme, we finally met Professor Wu Jing! Our first lesson was about the different ways we can create space, and also a short brief about our task.

Our task is: redesigning the kayaking area facing the IDI!
When we went there, our first observation was that we made was that we had become a blood buffet for the mosquitoes there.

We went down to the site again to attend a class and experience being a user firsthand, but we didn’t get to kayak. 🙁

Still, we took down a lot of notes about how the lesson went, and how the facilities were used. The place definitely needs revamping, and I hope this year our team can actually come up with a good design for the future dock.
