The SUTD Open House 2019 is right around the corner! Are you excited about it yet? With many of our faculty members and students putting the final touches on their workshops, performances and interactive booths, we thought we’d share a sneak peek of 10 things we are really pumped about at the Open House!

First, here is some helpful information:

1. A chance to experience what SUTD is all about and find out why our graduates have an employment edge. 

91.4% hired within 6 months of graduation. We secured jobs in 78% of SG’s key industries.

Two separate guided tours are conducted by our University Ambassadors and House Guardians. The first gives participants a front row seat to some of our state-of-the-art learning facilities like the Fabrication Lab and various collaborative spaces. The other covers the recreational facilities on-campus and the practical aspects of living in our unique hostel and your future ‘home’.

Campus tours take place all day long and it starts at the Info & Tours booth located at the Campus Centre,  Level 1. Chat with our friendly students/staff/faculty and learn about the overseas learning opportunities at the booths and project showcase.

2. DIY activities from Fab Lab

At the Fabrication Lab (Fab Lab), SUTD students design and build virtually anything with high-performance industrial machines. Curious to try your hand at making something? At the Open House, you will have the chance to! The Fab Lab is open all day at Building 5, Level 1.

3. Free Ice cream + Churros + MARIGOLD PEEL FRESH + MILO + Cup Corn

You scream, I scream, FREE ICE CREAM! You’ll need to deal with lots of adrenaline rush from our numerous interactive booths, workshops and Night Fiesta, so we’re going to keep you really, really fuelled!

4. Limited edition Tote Bag designed by Theseus Chan from WORK and illustrated by Seet Ming Li

When you’re a one-of-a-kind design and tech school like us, even the merch is cooler. Designed by Theseus Chan, a recipient of Designer of the Year, President’s Design Awards, these limited edition tote bags are yours when you sign up and redeem at our Open House!

5. Take part in a design workshop

While you’re in the mood for making things, our four Pillars are also holding various design workshops to walk you through SUTD’s distinctive pedagogy.

Architecture and Sustainable Design (ASD) Design Workshop (1.00pm to 2.00pm AND 5.00pm to 6.00pm, Campus Centre, Level 2)

Bridge to University: In this fast-paced/hands-on design workshop, prospective undergraduate ASD students will learn about how materials and structures are deeply embedded in architectural design, understand the concepts of architectural representations and scaled models, and create and test a design prototype for a bridge.

Engineering Product Development (EPD) Design Workshop (11.30am to 12.30Pm and 3.00pm to 4.00pm, Think Tank 16, Building 2, Level 2)

Time for a Sumo Wrestler challenge! Grab your friends and come join us in our EPD Design Workshop. Our team of experts will be there to guide you step-by-step through building your very own sumo robot from scratch!

Engineering Systems & Design (ESD) Design Workshop (11.30am to 12.30Pm and 3.00pm to 4.00pm, Think Tank 17, Building 2, Level 2)

In this interactive Lean Lego Workshop, learn about how lean principles have revolutionised industries worldwide, all while you’re engaged in the fun task of building Lego houses against the clock!

Information Systems Technology and Design (ISTD) Design Workshop (Think Tank 18, Building 2, Level 2)

Good things come in pairs! Choose from two design workshops conducted by our team of experts.

Snakes: Bit by Bit (1.00pm – 2.00pm)
Try your hand at programming a microcontroller to recreate the classic “Snake” game. Using Block programming language, you will be able to learn fundamental programming concepts and see it come to life real-time on the Microbit controller.

Fun with Byte Size Programming (5.00pm – 6.00pm)
Have a taste of SUTD’s unique hands-on pedagogy and experiential learning – immerse yourself in the various aspects of Information Systems by learning how to programme a micro controller and collaborate with other participants to decipher the secret code.

6. Explore the best of student life with our Fifth Row clubs

From E-Sports to contemporary dance, and from Jujitsu to drones, the Fifth Row, or co-curricular activities, is a vital part of  SUTD student  life. Come join them as they showcase the activities and projects they’re working on and you may just find yourself being drawn to more than just one!

7. Electric Vehicle Joy Ride

Up for some adrenaline-pumping action? Put your driving skills to the test with the electric vehicles designed and fabricated by our Electric Vehicle Club! Rides are available all day (except from 2pm to 3pm) outside the Fab Lab.

8. Magical light installation + Live Performances

Ready for an awe-inspiring dazzle? Come experience our campus in a different light at the SUTD Night Fiesta – our inaugural night extension segment on 23 Feb (Sat), 6pm to 10pm! A student-led initiative, it will be a night where fun meets technology and design!

9. XPark – Experiential and interactive games and exhibits powered by AR, VR, AI and Design Thinking

Getting used to the jargons yet? Virtually all the coolest trends and tech one can find. With our design-centric curriculum, there’s hardly any dull moment at this experiential park with interactive booths created by our very own students! (*ahem* we’re really proud of them!) Come experience the “Makers” culture and understand what makes SUTD special!

10. High-tech escape rooms you won’t find elsewhere

Unique to SUTD’s culture and idiosyncrasies, these escape rooms are designed by our own geniuses to put your problem-solving skills to a test. Come immerse yourself in our world of technology and design, but don’t get too lost! It’s going to be a mysterious night as you find your way out of our high-tech escape rooms!
