In this article we would like to share a story from Parekh Shalv Amit (Shalv), our senior year student from Engineering Product Development Pillar. Shalv recently completed his internship with Thales. Thales is a company that provides solutions for customers in aerospace, defence, security and transportation domains.
An SUTD Internship at Thales allowed me to use my skills in design thinking methodologies to co-design and co-innovate with customers.
I have always enjoyed the process of brainstorming and idea generation in design and innovation projects. At the Thales Innovation Hub, I had the opportunity to work on several such projects with various customers. Exposure to various design workshops and modules at SUTD equipped me with the right knowledge and skills to co-innovate with customers on complex systems’ design and development.
My supervisor, Ms Lillian Ng who took up the prominent role of being the manager for special projects, involved me in Senior Management Team meetings and workshops and trusted me to conduct segments of the same and facilitate the sessions. This privilege helped me get a deeper insight on the business and provided a great professional experience. Through this, I also had the chance to interact with the CEO for Thales in Singapore, Mr Kevin Chow.
Through this internship, I have developed the skill of crafting workshop agendas that are aligned with the needs of technical architects as well as the business development aspects. Working in multi-cultural teams with colleagues from Europe and the USA has given me exposure to the real working world, truly in a global context.
This summer internship has been a fulfilling experience and has helped shape me as a better professional and individual. For that, I am grateful to Thales for the opportunity and my advisor, Ms Lillian Ng for guiding me through this journey.
