Our first full day in Bangkok started off with an official opening of the programme by Prof. Toemsak Srikhirin at Mahidol University (MU), who did an introduction of the university, the School of Materials Science and Innovation (Faculty of Science) and their various research fields. MU is among Thailand’s most prestigious universities, making us very honoured to be spending the week here to learn.

Opening address by Assist. Prof. Dr. Toemsak Srikhirin.

It was then followed by a series of short lectures by the professors from the faculty, each introducing their research expertise and projects. They varied from topics such as Silicon semiconductors and Carbon nanoelectronics, 3D printing technologies, to Graphene and its related applications.

Assist. Prof Dr. Tanakorn Osotchan on his “Semiconductors and related technologies” research.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kittitat Subannajui presenting on “3D Printing Technologies”.
“Graphene and its applications” by Dr. Yodchay Jompol.

We were all eyes and ears to the intriguing sharings, taking notes along the way. Not going to lie, I was inspired by the possibilities that research in the material sciences can do in advancing technologies!

We had a hearty lunch at one of MU’s canteens, where we tried out their local cuisines with the help of our Thai counterparts. It was the first day we got to observe the typical university life in Thailand as well, look at how sleek their uniforms are!

Lunch hour’s about to end at one of MU’s canteens!

After the lectures, the students from Mahidol University then showed us around their huge and very, very beautiful campus. I think the pictures can speak for themselves:

One of MU’s many residential reptiles!

(Left) Meditation Pond at the College of Music.

Guided campus tour on the tram, the university’s too huge to explore on feet!

Jumpshot in front of the iconic Prince Mahidol Hall at MU with our Thai friends!

What an eventful day it was, and it’s only the beginning. Time to rest up for more fun activities lined up ahead for us!
