Having completed a first phase of Smart Beauty with resin, we now start focusing on the so called ‘Smart’ part of our project. Our project from now till week 10 will be to design smart appliances. We were split into 4 different groups, namely a smart shoe, smart air purifier, smart lighting and smart resin table. I joined the resin table group, where our task was to design a futuristic table. We had an idea, which was to create a table that represented something like space as the design, and we also had to create a wanted function for our table, which in our case, was to be able to sense weather and temperature. Next week, we will get our hands deeper into discussion for our project’s outcome.

This week, our theme also headed out to 摘杨梅 in Ningbo city to pick bayberries(杨梅). We all had to set off sharp at 7.15am early in the morning as it was a 3 hour bus ride from Zijingang campus to the harvesting forest of bayberries. It was definitely very early for some of us but the experience was definitely worthwhile. Our team enjoyed having the opportunity to pluck the berries off trees, which we could eat. The locals even generously offered out 10 big baskets of bayberries for our team! We were pleasantly surprised by their sincerity but at the same time shocked because we definitely could not finish 10 big baskets of bayberries among our team of 20 people! In the end, we ended up sharing the berries among our hostel neighbours and roommates.

Look closely and you’ll realise there are a bunch of spiders on the tree branch. Kind of reminds me of the Harry Potter stories of the forest of spiders. Ugh.
Bayberries!

I also met my family for 2 days on the way in Hangzhou when they were touring. We visited a few places, including 河坊街, trekked up a mountain and visited 西湖. My family enjoyed their stay in Hangzhou. I even showed them 外婆家, which they also tucked in to the delectable array of food.

That’s all for week 7!

This is the place “design” happens, and that is why we need to integrate.
