This week will be the last week of lessons. It felt long, yet short at the same time. It has been very refreshing, albeit very different, from the usual academic lessons I am used to. After these lessons, I can say that I am much more confident in my 3D modeling skills and also my sketching, shading and illustrations. For the last few tasks for Computer-aided Design class, we were trained in and had to use KeyShot to render the object’s texture, colour, material and also its environment settings etc. Seeing the models I created become almost lifelike felt very satisfying. The final task we had to do was to animate the mouse that we created after rendering it in KeyShot. For myself, I chose to feature the mouse moving around (translation) as if a user was using it, followed by a backflip (rotation) and then a zoom towards the mouse (camera zoom). It was a great process!

For Design Thinking class, we had to finish up some more practices on sketching (with pen) and shading (with markers and colour pencils), followed by the afternoon session which we had to design our own product centered around one theme – cup. So we were tasked to design any product related to a cup. Being fond of music, it naturally occurred to me to design something for musicians – a cup shaped like a musical quaver that sprays out water for thirsty musicians. Although I admit that my idea was not feasible realistically, I definitely had a lot of fun designing it.

The product of quick brainstorming – a cup shaped as a musical note (quaver) called Nup.

On a side note, as I begin to explore more of Hangzhou and the surrounding areas, I start to appreciate the beauty in the simplicity of life away from cities.

An everyday sight – The dog lover in me prompted me to take this photo.

With the end of lessons, there is more time now to dedicate to my theme project – Smart Home Systems. Currently, I am learning C and Java programming languages from scratch to modify the company’s existing code and also to make an app for them. I have high hopes that this will be a very vibrant learning journey ahead. Onward, PlugIn!

It is in my nature to learn, to grow, to help others, to teach, to explore, and to be fascinated with the unknown. With a keen interest in music, I play the tuba in the symphonic band and also the piano. Music is magical, and it never fails to amaze me how effectively it can connect people regardless of race, language, ethnicity and geographical proximity. Similarly, with my new-found passion in computing and programming, I aspire to create programs that does the same and to solve their problems, but in a slightly different, more technical approach.
