How can technology aid us in recycling without disrupting traditional systems like the ones karang gunis use?

In this inaugural video series, watch our faculty members and researchers lead discussions on everyday topics and explain how their multi-disciplinary research impacts us. Assistant Professor Lyle Fearnley kickstarts this monthly series to talk about how his research project has redesigned the way we look at recycling.

An intersection between technology and society, Honk! is an app developed by Lyle to connect households with karang gunis (rag and bone men) and charities. It seeks to overcome the challenges that current day karang gunis face, and the barriers that prevent households from recycling regularly.

If you would like to partner Lyle and his research team for the next stage of Honk!, you can contact him at lyle_fearnley@sutd.edu.sg.
