Since one of the goals of my exchange was to see more natural landscapes and sceneries, my friends and I decided to go for a hike up the Qiyan Mountain trail, located in Beitou. After 30 minutes of climbing however, we cam across a stone shelter which also happened to be a dead end. Confused we decided to walk back down and maybe calling it a day. Fortunately, we crossed paths with a hiker who was glad to show us around. Her name was Xiao Yu and she goes for a hike once a week.

One thing I remember most about the hike is that Miss Yu would stop and ask us which route we would like to take and I would always reply “the fun one”. And I’m very glad we met her for this trip as she brought us through some interesting routes that we would not have gone by ourselves.

Spending most of my life in Singapore, my closest reference for hiking trails was mostly just Bukit Timah and the Southern Ridges Trail. Thus I was really satisfied with the trail we went through. There were really great views and we got high enough that the wind made sure we weren’t really sweaty and that made the hike enjoyable.

I’m very glad we met Miss Yu and that she was kind enough to offer us a tour around the trails for free. This was definitely one of the more memorable parts of this exchange.
