안녕하세요~

The past few weeks at POSTECH has been pretty much the same: studying, studying and studying.. Actually, more like trying to rush my assignments… But this week, i managed to do some voluntary work!! I participated in two different social work on Saturday and Sunday. So basically, my voluntary work involves me helping to clean up the environment at two different locations. The first one was at one-off event for youths at the Pohang waterway canal.

Furthermore the fall foliage was so pretty and with the weather, it made a pretty serene stroll in the park.

Since it was an event for youths, that means i was surrounded by high school students. It was pretty fun because the atmosphere was pretty hyped up since everyone was young and enthusiastic. And it also became more like a hangout between friends while they strolled down the canal and picked up rubbish. They didn’t slack off at all, and so did i.

And this is all the rubbish we collected at the end it~~ I finished the event feeling super environmentally friendly. and guys, please stop throwing cigarette buds into the grasses and on the floor. Its tiring to pick it up…

That concludes the first voluntary work.

The second work i did on Sunday was pretty much the same just that it was at a further place called Yangdeok Soccer Stadium. Because of my language barrier, it made it really hard for me to communicate with the people. Nevertheless the people were so welcoming and they tried so hard to communicate with me. Super excited to see them next week again when i continue on this service!

Finding voluntary work here was pretty hard because google didn’t offer me much about voluntary services here in Pohang. Also, when i finally found an organisation i was interested in, i couldn’t contact them because either they did not have an email or they couldn’t understand me. With much effort and asking around, i finally managed to find out how to get all these voluntary services. So below will be a quick guide on how to find.

1. You must have your ARC(alien registration card).
2. Register on the website 1365.go.kr .This is a official website which gathers all the voluntary services in Korea and you can apply for services through here.

Note: The website is entirely in Korean but with the help of google translate, all should be pretty easy to get through.

The people in this organisation are really really nice because they probably got the hint from my name that i was a foreigner. So they too the effort to call and text me to make sure i was able to get to the place properly. They also contacted my school’s people to notify them that i might need help for these services. Super nice people!!

And yes that’s it for my volunteering services for now.
